Steel Industries manufactures forged sleeves in a variety of sizes and material grades per client specifications. Forged sleeves can be made by either forging a rolled ring on a ring mill and elongating the height of the wall or by forging a cylinder on the press and punching a hole through the center during the forging process.
Advantages of Forged Sleeves
Forged sleeves are better for high stress applications and wear environments compared to a cast sleeve. Sleeves save a ton of time for machine shops as they do not have to machine that center hole out and they can still keep the wall thickness, height and material grain structure required to make the end use component as durable as possible.
Additionally, Steel Industries can forge a sleeve and saw cut it into rings thus saving lead time time and money for our customers if there are larger quantities needed. This is a very common process for aerospace forging applications.
